Student Loan reduction Scam, called back, recording "Janet" stated that I had expressed an interest in lowering my student debt. and that if I was qualified I could lower my payments up to 50%,
I have no student loans, pressed 1 for federal loans, YAH! I "Qualify" transferred and rang 5 times, "Please try again later"
Please engage in what is called "Scam Baiting"
Get an operator for these criminals on the phone, KEEP them on the phone! While they are talking to YOU, they are not scamming someone who doesn't know better.
When they ask for your name, use a false name. They are trained to use your name repeatedly to "Connect" with you. To make you feel that they are your "Friend." I use my dogs name, My Dead Dogs Name....
listen to everything they say, ASK QUESTIONS, Keep them engaged. sound interested!
They WILL eventually ask for a credit card or other financial information. take your time finding the information.
I use a new prepaid credit-card for any online purchases, it normally has a couple cents left on it after I use it, and it is convenient to provide these numbers to the caller.
Again, do not give any of YOUR ACTUAL information to these people. But keep them on the phone as long as possible.
If you are on a cell phone, or a land line and ready to go, tell them your phone is dying, and ask to call you back on your land line ---- give them an official number, Mayors office, utilities number, police, or my favorite - a local extension for the suicide hotline. (good numbers to know anyway)
