Scam recording pretending to give away a cruise but really just wants to record you saying "yes".  Don't fall for it.

If someone calls and says she's having trouble with her headset, hang up.

There have been several telephone scams in which the caller tries to elicit a "yes" answer from the called person.  Those scams have been around for at least four years.

The good part is ... Snopes states there are NO verified reports of people actually getting charged because of their "yes" answer.

Interesting observation:  There are quite a few reports of the "Can You Hear Me" scam here ... and those reports tell readers not to say "yes".  However there are at least as many "phony IRS" scams reported here ... but many of those reports ask "is this real?".

Why the difference?

Maybe, just maybe the "Can You Hear Me" scam was described on several TV newscasts, distorted, then passed on in casual conversation. The "phony IRS" scams are less "advertised".  If this is true, perhaps YOU need to learn more about telephone scams.  Visit

The reason for the scammer getting you to say "yes" is immaterial in this case.  The calls are always nefarious so the advice shouldn't change based on the fact that there are "worse" scams going around.  In all cases, they are trying to separate you from your money.

The reason I say this is a "yes" scam is that a yes answer is required to continue with the call.  They ask if they can ask you a few questions for your free cruise, and unless you say "yes" explicitly, the call will end,  If you say something like "You can ask me questions" the call will end.  The only affirmative response accepted is "yes", which leads me to believe this is what they're after.
