I went ahead and called local police to report this, since the man gave me a local address and asked me to meet them in the parking lot to get the voucher. The detective has an active case for this number and said that there have been several people in my area to be threatened with this scam. He also confirmed that the IRS sends certified letters and would never call on the phone with this sort of harassment. I knew it was a scam- It had to be, but I have never been to jail so the threat of arrest was a bit alarming. That is the point I am sure. If you get this call, turn it in to the police- especially if they give you and address and ask you to meet them for a payoff. Someone will fall for this and could be in danger.
I just received a phone call from this same number. It was a terrible connection so I hung up and called the number back. He instantly answered this direct line (something the IRS obviously doesn’t do). He said his name was John with the IRS Crime Investigations Department and he was calling in regards to Matthew’s tax evasion case (my boss). I laughed and told him this sounds like a scam and to take us off his list. We spend thousands of dollars on accounting each year, there is no evasion taking place around here. Furthermore, we all know the IRS sends certified letters, they don’t go calling people with a terrible connection from their direct line with a heavy foreign accent. I told him he was a terrible person for taking part in this scam and to remove us from his calling list. I will now be filing a complaint with “do not call” list. Oh the joys.
I received a call from man claiming to be with the IRS wanted to verify my address, stating that I have an arrest warrant out due to taxes owed. Total scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan. Ignore and block the calls!!!!
