When I decide to answer, I don't say hello. I answer by saying "I'm not interested in what your selling" and hang up. I've been pretty lucky they don't me back.
Unfortunately I wasn't home to take this call. To bad as I was in the mood to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person. From the previous comments it sounds like the "Mike" from India who called me yesterday on a different Utah number. No problem on missing the call as I'm sure they will call back so I can enjoy my hobby.
I got call from same number. Believe same people calling from 786-329-7174, that these are both VOIP lines leased from Voxbone. The bigger problem here may be certain companies that market USA phone numbers to overseas scammers (often located in India). Voxbone and Nextiva may be two good examples of such companies. Next step for FCC to fight robo/scam/spam callers may be stopping these companies from selling access to domestic area codes for use by overseas fraud operations.
Others here tried calling back with no success. I did not try.
One poster said it was Mike looking for donations for law enforcement. Others have said the caller ID said AFLE. I would guess that the LE stands for "law enforcement". The F is likely either "fund" or "foundation". The A is likely "American". I checked a comprehensive acronym site; there was none that made sense for a law enforcement fund. This is a bad sign.
Others have mentioned that you can't call them back, or that the operators sound like they are in India. I'd bet the call didn't originate in Utah. Probably picked it as the state is associated with order as opposed to say Chicago. Number almost certainly spoofed, another bad sign.
Most legitimate law enforcement fundraising is done at the town or county (and rarely state) level. I suspect any nationwide law enforcement fundraising is a SCAM. I have received many calls from such groups over time. IMO, they were all scams. I expect this one is no different.
