Just got a call from this number as well, so I googled it to see if anyone else had encountered it. She was calling with a thick accent telling me that my number had been selected as the recipient of $25,000, courtesy of Best Buy. Of course I immediately thought this was bullsh*t, but I thought I'd play along to see if I could mess with her. I am located in Greenville, SC, and this call was coming from Newport, RI, so I looked up (while on the phone) where Best Buy was headquartered: Richfield, Minnesota. So after several lackadaisical "uh-huh's" from me, I interrupted her to point out that this call was calling from Rhode Island, to which she argued, "No, I am calling from Greenville." This was a lie, of course, and I said so, saying that my phone tells me the origin of phone calls. "Well, this is coming from our main offices in Rhode Island," she tried in a miserable attempt to keep it going. I called her on this as well, pointing out that Best Buy HQ was in Minnesota. For some reason she thought she could weasel out of this one, too, but I just stopped her and said that I was busy, but I appreciated the call, then to hang up.
Let anyone know this call is likely to be a load of crap, and just be smart when receiving suspicious calls like this. Cheers!
Same as Will. I live in Greenville, SC as well, but ironically am FROM Rhode Island. I assumed it was an old friend or family member. BUT, I googled this, so thanks Will for doing the homework.
I also received calls from this number today, but by the time I answered, the person had already hung up. BOTH TIMES. I tried calling back, but the number is not available.
