This number called our company today at 1404 hours. Caller ID said "Richard, Meers." A man cheerfully asked, "Is [owner's first name] there?" When told, no, the owner doesn't work in the office, and asked if I could do anything for him, the guy brusquely replied, "No, I'm good," and then loudly disconnected, as if nearly slamming the receiver back down. A quick search shows that he apparently is "Oak Mountain Card Services", yet another credit card processing company. He'll never get our business because he made the same dumb mistake so many other cold-calling solicitors make: that the person answering the phone is a nobody. The joke's on him. I'm the one he would have needed to talk to about credit card processing because the boss knows nothing about it, but I'm not going to give this guy the time of day. Okay, to be honest, he never had a prayer anyway because I don't believe the claims of the endless number of credit card processors out there. If everyone was telling the truth, that they're cheaper than everyone else, then they'd be PAYING US to do processing. But a sure-fire way of never doing business with me is to act as if the person answering the phone is a second-class citizen who knows nothing and has no authority.
Same thing again, this time, today at 1052 hours. Guy cheerfully asked for the owner by first name, was told the same thing as nearly two years ago. He replied, perhaps slightly less cheerful, "Okay. Thank you." and disconnected with a brusqueness that was nearly a slamming of the phone. Well, at least this particular pest isn't overly persistent.
