On Oct. 27, 2010, I received a call (I unfortunately deleted the number), the person on the line stated that it was NOT a telemarketing call; he was taking a survey about smoke/CO2 detectors. Questions were about how often I changed the detectors batteries and if our home had fire extinguishers and if we knew how to use them. I thought, gee, it is close to daylight savings, and the media reminds us to change the batteries during spring ahead/ fall back, so I wasn't concerned. He did not try to ell me anything AT THAT TIME!  Go forward to today, November 1, 2010, I get a call from this number, 401-921-5241, under the caller ID of VMS, now I find out that LUCKY ME! My name was chosen from the survey of Oct. 27 and I "won" a $1200.00 home security system!!  I told the lady that I already had a home security system - their names are Magda and Sarge, two 115 pound German Shepherds. She kept pushing this security system, I said I wasn't interested, then she goes on about how I must not care about my family's safety, etc... . I hung up.

I just had the same thing happen!! Survey last week - to which I was utterly non-responsive. Just now - selected to receive this wonderful free security system based upon my answers to the survey! I said, why are you assuming that I don't already have a security system? I did not answer that question in the survey. I said I'm not interested. SHE hung up.

Just had same call tonight from 401-921-5241 - said I won $1,200 security system - when I started asking questions - she said I had the personality of a "python" - made complaint to national "do not call list" - called warwick police - because the reverse lookup is Stephanie Toledo of 20 Arlee Street in Warwick, RI - warwick police told me to call lincoln police because I live in Lincoln, RI - Lincoln police don't want to hear about it - it's definitely a scam - someone needs to followup on this!!

Had the same scenario starting with the survey about smoke detectors on Feb. 23, 2011, and concluding after more than a half-dozen missed calls when they finally reached me on Mar. 29, 2011.  Bottom line is that you can only get the "free" $1,200 home security system if you agree to a 36 month monitoring contract with Monitronics International at a cost of "about" $36/month - or amazingly - $1.296 over the life of the contract.

I wrote to the FCC that day about abuse of the Do Not Call list, and they finally got back to me by letter dated Aug. 18, 2011.  They have assigned a case number, thanked me for contacting them regarding a possible violation, then went on to say they don't resolve individual complaints but they do have authority to impose fines, etc.  Feel like I at least did what I could to turn these jerks off.
