Some one is displaying this number, 402-817-1074, in a text messaging scheme.

In the one I received they spoofed the sms short code to show the message coming from 3639
a spoofed email of [email protected]

message body was:

Notice: Jefferson Parish Account Limited. Call 402-817-1074

This is a variant of the bank phishing scams.

for me it was obvious for several reasons;
1) I don't have any accounts in Jefferson Parish, banking or other wise.
2) The email address shown is  a spoof of tmobile's url the actual username of tmomail is a dead giveaway since that is one of their branded names.
3) Jefferson Parish, LA would NOT be sending messages from Nebraska.

This is something for every one who gets a bogus call, email or text to consider before they answer it or any questions.

1) if you do not know the number calling you DON"T answer the phone. 90% of the population only gets legitimate calls from numbers they already KNOW. They should be in your cell phones address book.

2) Banks and governments DO NOT send unsolicited text messages, So unless you signed up for your checking account to notify you of changes (or your credit card) you should never get a call, email or text from your bank.If you have signed up for those services your bank will TELL you the number that will send the messages from so you can put it in your cell phone if they won't (or just don't know) rethink signing up with them for those services.

3) Common sense applies, if you don't know the number, don't have an account with that organization, get a message that in ANY WAY could be related to money, or it sounds to good to be true, COUNT on it being a scam and avoid it. Notify your bank if you receive a message from them by dialing the number you find in the PRINTED PHONE BOOK or go into the nearest branch. DO NOT CALL BACK OR CLICK ON links from questionable messages!
