SCAM ALERT
(NOT AGAINST VERIZON, SOMEONE IS USING THEIR NAME):
To those of you out there struggling to find a job, please know that there are evil people trying to take advantage of your desperation and are Phishing for your identity... I didn't give them any information, but someone who isn't as guarded as I am might do it out of desperation for a job.

These people have been reported!

Here is the email address... [email protected] you might want to just add it to your blocked sender list! Feel free to pass this along if you think it will help some of your friends (I removed my personal info).

HERE'S WHAT HAPPENED:

I got the strangest call from a "Recruiter" from Verizon Wireless... this was a cold call (I didn't respond to a job ad or anything, they found my resume on Career Builder).... They said in order to get added to their system, I have to give them the last 5 digits of my SSN!!!!!!!!!!

I told her that I was not comfortable giving that on a cold call. When she told me it was required, I told her not to put me up for the position and said goodbye. Her manager called me back and said he would give me a random 5 digit number to get me in the system and I can change it later.

Here are some of the problems I had with the call:
1. I've never had a recruiter ask for this on the first contact.
2. The lady was obviously from India and had to repeat everything 3 or 4 times for me to understand. I find it strange that a company, especially one as large as Verizon, would have a recruiter who is impossible to understand. I'm not against accents, but this was VERY thick... I'm questioning the validity of her claim to be Verizon's recruiter.
3. She told me the job was in Erwin (that's exactly how she said it 3 times). I told her that I wasn't familiar with that city, and she changed the pronunciation to Irvin (like Ervin)... I finally realized she meant Irvine! How is it possible that the "Recruiter" doesn't know how to pronounce the city?????????????
4. The call came from Atlanta, GA (this one doesn't bother me too much, but still)
