Messaged me on a craigslist post wanting to send a cashiers check for a mower that had no pix and needs work. Asked no questions except wanted my full name and address. Says will let me cash check then his shipper will pick up. Think I will pass. 400 dollar mower that needs work purchased sight unseen and shipping to Georgia from Mo. Nope
DO NOT even cash the check - it will bounce. This is the typical Craig's List SCAM. Take the check & envelope to the post office & forward it to the postal inspectors.
I hope you fully understand that the bank making the funds available and the check clearing are two completely different things. By law, the bank must make the funds available the next day, except for certain instances. It may take several days or even weeks for the check to actually clear. If you withdraw those funds and send them out and that check bounces, you will be responsible for the money you withdrew, the bank fees, and on a check that size you could be criminal charged as well.
