called to verify physical address but refused to say for what reason. I told him only our PR rep could verify info for listings and he got very rude and snarkily replied " well, I already HAVE your information" and hung up before I could transfer him. Not professional at all.
Man withOUT an accent (for a change) wanted to update his supervisor's contact list. I advised that per company policy, any inquiries regarding employees must be in writing and was offering the mailing address when he abruptly said, "Thank you," and hung up. I researched the number and found The List, a firm that generates sales leads.
Girl called and asked to verify names and titles for a few members of management. When I asked her what it was for she said her company previously did business with us and they wanted to verify if the names and titles were still the same. So I asked her what business did her company do with ours and she says she doesn't know. I said isn't that strange and she said no, not really but I'm only the secretary here. So I told her I don't like to give out company information when I don't know what it's going to be used for and I politely said thanks for calling and hung up on her. Total BS. They just want to get names and titles to flood companies with junk mail and/or sales calls. Pathetic
UPDATE -- Another man with accent called two days in a row, wishing to run down a list of employees to verify whether they still worked for the company. I explained that he must put his request in writing, because corporate policy doesn't permit doing that over the phone. He accepted the standard mailing address and was generally polite, unlike the last time.
