Robo message from "Prudential Equity Insurance". Not identified on caller i.d. just the number listed. We live in S.C. and we are finding more and more attorneys willing to sue carriers that allow v.o.i p. calls. Since the numbers are "spoofed" and most are coming from a computer with an infinity of numbers going after the morons calling is more difficult- not impossible just more difficult- then going after the host company is a more direct and effective method. These companies operate in the open often as marketing services. A simple computer search will yield a large number companies that advertise these services for anyone wanting to run a legal and in most cases an illegal operation. The host company (advertising/marketing company) is actually doing the calling or allowing the telemarketers to access their system thus allowing the telemarketers to call you. Simply put, if the host were held responsible for the phone calls this nonsense would stop over night.
Additionally, if the feds would implement a system that allowed phone owners to report spam calls immediately, for instance dialing #01 after receiving a telemarketing call, then when enough complaints where reached against a specific telephone number a fine of 10k would be imposed again these phone calls would dry up over night. Regardless of how many times the caller tries to hide or spoof his number the FTC & the FCC could trace the root of the call. If not then we're all in trouble.
Since the Feds can't seem to figure out how to stop nuisance illegal phone scams (yeah! Now their in charge of healthcare-can't wait to see how that works out) maybe sueing the carriers will finally fix the problem. In the meantime I just continue to add these predatory criminals to a very long list on my call blocker.
