B L O C K E D -- yes, another scam from thieves saying they are raising $$ for the Fraternal Order of Police -- MAKE SURE YOU ASK THEM HOW MUCH OF YOUR DONATION WILL GO TO THE POLICE ! They are required to reveal it -- they usually say something like 'upwards of 10 percent of your donation will go to the Police"...... in other words, THEY KEEP 90% OF YOUR DONATION !! Yes, they are raising money -- but they're also Keeping 90% of it --- so if you want to donate -- DO IT DIRECTLY TO THE POLICE -- not to these shysters !. I always ask these "charities" what their rating is on Charity Navigator (if they don't know, they are NOT legit), and how much goes DIRECTLY to the charity -- IF IT IS LESS THAN 90 % THAT GOES TO THE CHARITY -- I GIVE NOTHING TO THEM ! Would advise others to use similar questions to determine your gift giving. These people make a fortune off the good will of people, who think they are helping others, but in fact, they are lining the pockets of unscrupulous bottom feeders......
Missed call, no message left. If it is important, the caller can leave a message and I will return the call at my convenience. Otherwise, it is considered unwanted solicitation. I think I heard or read somewhere that there is some rule or law that causes the callers to not leave a message. Something like a restriction on how often they can call, or restriction on call times, and if they leave a message that makes the call official somehow. I don't know and it's not really important. I started a list (or a junk contact) in my phone of these crap callers a few years ago. If the caller does not leave a message I immediately come here to see if this caller has bothered anyone else. So far I have 85 numbers stored under this junk contact. I would guess that over half of them belong to Portfolio Recovery.
All this leads to a question, When the calls first started from PR, I told them that I am not the person they are looking for. They have the correct name but all other info is incorrect. I can only guess that there is another person with same name as me and somehow they found this name (my name) and my number and started calling. Is this how they work? Don't they have better methods than this? I've seen suggestions that a certified cease and desist letter might make them stop. But, so far I have not yet received any mail from them. I would like to think that they do not have my address. I'm afraid that a letter may give them more information to harass me with. Any thoughts??
I don't know where you got your information on the law, but it isn't anywhere near correct. Further you don't need a letter from them to send them a certified, return receipt "not me" letter, nor do you need it to file a report at the CFPB web site and your state attorney general, nor do you need a letter to sue them if necessary.
Perhaps you would be so kind as to enlighten me on the law, rather than just saying "wrong"?
I know that I don't need a letter from them to do any of the things you listed.
My question.... considering that this is nothing more than a nuisance to me, is it worth the risk to send them a letter, with MY information? What guarantee do I have that they will stop? If they were sending me letters and actually threatening some type of legal action then yeah, I could see that it would be worth it. I'm just not sure how far I want to go with this to stop a few phone calls.
