Apparently this is a big issue for Dekalb Medical Center because I called the Medical Center (at their main number, not the 1009 extension) to notify them, and got a recorded message that starts out talking about it even before listing departments. The recording says something about it being a generic number from within the hospital and that they cannot determine it's origin nor do they know who is doing it.
If this was some random teen prank, it wouldn't continue for this long, because no one teenager would likely visit the hospital that often. I suspect that they've got a ward there for mental illness, and someone in it is making phone calls.
Have been getting these calls often--most recently, at 5:58,7;26, 8:08 yesterday morning; then.today at 5:42 a.m. and again tonight at 9:40, 9:46, 10:16,10:29,10:38. On these last calls tonight I began answering and immediately hanging up. Sometimes there is a recording; other times, nothing.
Does anyone know of a way to block calls from this number?
UPDATE: After receiving 7 calls on 6/10/12 and 11 calls on 6/11 (yesterday), I finally researched my phone service options and discovered that I could add this number to block any calls from it. I did so and have received no further calls from "DeKalb Regional." (I understand that the caller will hear a message notifying that the number has been blocked, but this could be a prank robo-call.)
Since DeKalb Medical has been aware for years that unwanted calls are being made from one of their "generic" numbers, I'm disappointed that no-one has investigated and corrected the problem. Their inaction is not consistent with my experience of their helping the community.
If I can track down whoever is in charge of telephone communications, I will share my record of the times calls were made. Except for a couple of early morning calls (before 6 a.m.), calls were grouped around conventional meal times--breakfast, lunch, and supper. I would think that detective work by someone familiar with their system could end this ongoing annoyance.
