I did some tracing and found the number to be related to this place:
Portfolio Recovery Service
(757) 961-3546 is Unpublished
Type: Land Line
Provider: Cox Telcom, Inc
Location: Norfolk, VA
They use skip trace and other underhanded means to collect on debts and other non-existent debts.
Same lame taped msg as 435-294-1290 - press 1 for the Opinion One Survey.
The 435 number claims to be from Logan UT - this one from Georgia - they do get around! Too bad all that money spent on the "Do Not Call" list is so wasted.
Why do they have the no call list ???? it sure dont work they still call every day. Be nice if they would do somthing about it WHERE they cant call.. it gets realy old...
Fellow sufferers, please take note. The "Do Not Call" lists (national and states) only stop those who play by the rules. The vast majority of the calls you are receiving are generated BY the "Do Not Call" list. The DNC List is a guarantee of a working, populated number. If you thoroughly read the DNCs, you will note there is a place for merchants to go to DOWNLOAD the lists so they can be merged/purged with their existing call lists. For the companies who are mentioned on these threads, the risk of discovery and punishment (if it can be called that) for abuse is minimal. Companies like First National Information Network (818.333.2670)use them with impunity and, if you call or email them to demand removal, will ADD YOUR NUMBER AND/OR EMAIL to their lists.
The respective agencies with the power to levy fines and punishments do so only 1) under duress, 2) when the violation is flagrant, frequent and documented, and 3)if there is something to gained such as appearing to be momentarily "consumer friendly" in the midst of our economic meltdown. The callers are businesses. We are simply targets of opportunity.
The "quick fix" is to answer the phone only when you know the caller. Unidentified numbers go unanswered...always. There are lots of other means of communication for family and friends who choose to mask their identity.
Idiots saying they are conducting a nationwide survey, if you wish to participate "please press 1"; didn't hang up, but I did. Sounded very strange, almost like somebody goofing around with nothing better to do.
A one-ringer. Been getting a few of these lately, every one of them from outside of my timezone. Must be a telebot dialing to confirm real phone numbers. Such a useless waste of life.
