These people called me about a old bill saying that I gave false bank info for a ach transaction and that I ran from last known address! I only moved around the corner, oh and I'm a flight risk!! I just laughed.  I called my police dept and they said 1st off no company will do a courtesy call to let you know you have a warrant and second I looked up the number and of course it's fraud.

Scared
This number called, I was working and was unable to answer. They called my grandfather, my mom, my daughter, my cousin, my sister, my ex step daughter, and my ex husband!!  Once I got all messages at lunch I tried to call back. No answer but Melissa Clark called back from arbitory services sent me to her director said I have 2 felony charges and 1 mister meaner. Gave me a case number. Even knew my social security number. I had 3 choices--- turn myself in, they would pick me up, or take care of it now. They also knew I have never been in any trouble before. Someone please tell these same people are a scam and how do I turn them in for it. Not only did the scare me, they scared half my family. Now I keep waiting for them to pick me up

Legitimate process servers do not call to warn you, or to get money from you to stop the process.  They will deliver the notification without warning.

(Here is more info than you really need on process serving:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_of_proce ... nited_States.29 )

More info:
http://www.bbb.org/blog/2012/03/beware-bogus-process-servers/

Also, if you were threatened with an "arrest warrant" via a phone call or email, read this:
http://news.uscourts.gov/warning-arrest-warrant-scam

"The warrant is phony. A valid warrant would not be served by fax or e-mail. It would be served in person by a U.S. Marshal or other law enforcement officer."

"Anyone receiving a fake arrest warrant should contact the FBI or the district U.S. Marshals Office. If there is any question regarding the authenticity of a warrant, contact your district clerk of court."

Definitions, if you need 'em:
* A =summons= is an official notice of a lawsuit. It is given to the person being sued (the defendant).
* A =subpoena= is a court order. It requires someone to come to court, go to a deposition, or give documents or evidence.
* =Papers= is a word sometimes used by scammers, as a scare word.  Legal documents can be sent via Certified mail. A courier is not absolutely necessary, although  the Sheriff, Constable, or a Bonded Licensed Process Server might be used.  Such people will have appropriate ID.
