I saw the caller ID as "PRIVATE" and the area code of the number as out of state, so I let it go to VM. Plugged it into the search here and then checked for a VM... No message on VM so I dialed *67 and then called the number back (makes call out show Private =sauce for the goose and all that ;-)
Curiously, it immediately answered in a recorded man's voice, "The number you have dialed is unallocated." repeatedly... Then switched to woman's recorded voice saying "Your call cannot be completed as dialed. If you feel you have received this message in error, please check the number and dial again...oh106" repeatedly.... Then finally cut to a busy tone repeating before dropping to an "off the line repeating chirp" signifying that they had finally relinquished the line.
This is often the ruse used by numbers that are "spoofed" being used to robocall- a recorded busy signal, or other "message" leading one to believe that you have not tied up their incoming phone line.
Caller "PRIVATE" has made another unsolicited call today- (looked back and missed their call on Aug 3rd as well)- Never a VM left, and figure it for a spoofed number, robocaller as per above. Not interested and not interesting ;-
I believe the call was from India but using an American cell #. They said they are the "world wide web" and wanted to fix my computer over the phone. They had my name, address, and phone#. I told them to e-mail me the information, and they said they had to do it now over the phone. I hung up on them. There is nothing wrong with my computer and I think it was a company I used 2 years ago to fix my old computer. Either way, it was a scam attempt.
Been receiving harassing calls from a man sounding like someone from India. Claiming he needs to fix my computer.
He calls my cell phones and home phone.
