This appears to be another one of those dubious charities. There are a number of reports on the Internet which make me believe they are folks to stay away from. Atlanta has a long history of operations that take donations of items and then re-sells them for a tidy profit. These operations donate a tiny portion (typically 2-3%) to whatever passes as a charity, and pocket the 98% or so for "operating expenses". The do only enough to avoid prosecution, and no more. They are apparently not listed with Charity Navigator .ORG . I have seen such "charities" claim to help Veterans, Disabled, Retarded, Learning Disabled, and now Addiction Recovering Persons. Is Step Up such a group ? Read the comments about them on other sites and decide for yourself. I can only tell you that I will not have anything to do with them. If you are looking for an Atlanta charity serving a similar demographic, and which is very highly rated by Charity Navigator's web site, try donating to Atlanta Union Mission. I hope you find this information helpful. I have classed Atlanta Step Up as a telemarketer because I believe that most accurately reflects what they are doing, regardless of what they call themselves. YMMV.
