I received a phone call today stating that i would go to jail if i did not pay an alleged debt from 2010. The alleged debt is an overdrawn bank account. This is not on my credit report. They would only accept visa/mastercard, debit or money gram. I have looked into this business, WSA, and found investigations against them. They gave me one number, which led to another number, and another. In total, I was given 8 phone numbers, all which led me nowhere. This is a scam!!
I was told that I have a debt from 2010 and I'm facing charges advised them to send me documentation stated they did 10 years ago so I said ive. moved since then. We will document your response.
look, all you need to do is to tell them to send you the "letter" If they fail to do that they are thieves. If they do, send them a certified, return receipt letter telling them to validate the debt.
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
