This is the Fraternal Order of Police. Looks like they are doing another round of donations and "support kits." They do no leave messages. I think they are exempt from the DNC list for some reason (probably due to union lobbyists) but they are not a charity.
Most often they are perfectly ok when you decline to donate but I did get one guy last year who was really pushy and wouldn't stop with the sales pitch. I hate hanging up on people in the middle of their sentences, even telemarketers, but i had to interrupt him to say "look, no thank you." Then he became really rude and told me that he hopes I never need the police.
I'd consider that a threat but some telemarketers are just bullying a$$holes.
I have heard that the Fraternal Order of Police gets very little of the donation and the scammers get the rest, and they give just enough to stay under the radar. I never answer numbers I do not know and the ID is not shown on my caller ID. I just click on and then off, just to avoid the phone ringing several times.
I answered this call, unfortunately. Said hello twice, finally someone said hello to me. Asked how I was doing. And identified himself as with the FOP. He went on to say they needed my contributions for their charity. I told him I was strapped for money at this particular time (I'm not giving him the reasons). And then he started full-force with his pitch. First I said, wait. Then I said louder, Wait!
Then I said Hey, please stop right now. All the while I am trying to get his attention, he keeps on with his sales pitch. So I said, STOP, stop, stop, is this a tape or an actual person? STOP, STOP!
Then he finally stopped. And I said, didn't you hear what I just said, I am strapped for money right now, and I can't afford to send his organization ANY money or any kind of donations. He said, maybe next year. I said, I doubt it! Why do these people not stop at the first time when you say you can't do any thing for their organization? Very annoying, and to a degree, harassment!! Wish Congress would do some better legislation or amend the original Do Not Call List bill that they passed.
