received text saying that my card that started with 4499 had been deactivated, please call 404 9560917. When called the number ring one time and disconnected. I have no card with that number. I replied back with text that I was going to report them.
This is yet another phishing scam trying to get your personal information. DO NOT provide them with any information. Delete the message immediately. They are using the names of different credit unions, whether you are a member or not.
I received a text from phone number 404-956-0917 saying that my Bank of the Commonwealth card starting with 4018 had been deactivated (I don't have any accounts with BOC). What stood out to me in this scam is that they used the word "starting" rather than "ending". I'm fairly certain legitimate card issuers only refer to their customers' accounts by the ending digits of the account number, not the beginning ones. This will trick a lot of people into responding to the text and possibly giving up personal info.
The other thing is that the message said to call 757-214-9053 which is the phone number of Exodus Faith Ministries in Chesapeake, VA. So shameful to pull a church into their scam!
On Saturday, August 12 received a text message from number 404-891-1102 (land line according to White pages.com). It read "Your credit union debit card has a pending alert" Here's the kicker (smile)
'call toll free 404-891-1102 and follow instructions to resolve this alert" I called the number for kicks and giggles and of course I put a bogus credit card number, expiration date, etc.
Received text from 404-956-5016 , "Your entry last month has WON! Go to http://bestbuyprizes.net/ and enter code 4656 to claim your FREE $1000 Best Buy Gift Card now!"
I ignored it but is very annoying to get so much crap like this.
I use Sprint, btw.
I received same text from same number, 404-956-5016 @ 9:44am central time:
"Your entry last month has WON! Go to http://bestbuyprizes.net/ and enter code 4656 to claim your FREE $1000 Best Buy Gift Card now!"
