A woman called our business phone number at approximately 7:30 pm on a Saturday night stating that she was a representative of our power/ electric company, and that the power company was going to shut off our power in less than one hour for failure to pay our electric bill. She demanded that we must immediately provide our banking and credit card information for immediate payment to prevent them from shutting off power imminently. As an amusing side note ... in the background, I heard a gaggle of small children/ babies screaming and crying, and could tell instantly that this was a scam. I played along as if I was concerned, wondering how such could have possibly happened given that we pay by direct withdrawal. She informed me that they have "gone to a new system, and that our payments have not been processed for over two months". I then requested her identification (name, contact phone number, etc.), at which point she hung up. When I returned the call, she slipped into a torrent of obscenities, and proudly proclaimed that she would never be caught because she was using an untraceable mobile phone. I had a little fun with my response to her and immediately proceeded to file a report with the local police. Truly pitiful that such scum takes advantage of the public.
