I'm getting enough of these I'm wondering if they make good "scambait" targets. Any advise on repercussions if they're initiated by the other party and no acknowledgement is made whether they have or have not reached the person they're looking for?
For 2 weeks now, I've been recieving calls from a Ms Hankinson from MLA Corp, calling the company a "legal placement firm", not a collection agency. She claims that I owe on a payday loan from early 2010, which has been paid in full to a collection company called Lombardo, Davis and Goldman. As with many calls described before me, she goes on to explain that I now owe over $1000.00 and to stop this from going to court, I needed to send her a payment immediately. Explained it had been paid, sent her backup, and called Lombardo to request confirmation on their letterhead. This wasn't enough, said since I seemed sincere, she'd drop it down to a settlement of $600.00. I became tired of her daily calls and called the original lender so to if in fact they had hired MLA Corp, they said NO. I repeadly asked Ms Hankenson to please send me something in writing with her letterhead, which she refused, saying because they were a legal placement firm again and they weren't required to. I asked again, in writing, for the Dept Validation Letter, shedeclined. She did finally tell me that they were Mauconduit & Luna, they just went by MLA Corp because most people can't pronounce their name. This mornings call did it..more harassing, lied about calling my main office to confirm employment and had another person, Cheif Stewart Wallace get on the phone and say he was sending me to court right now, I've commited check fraud, and that the judge will not be so kind. I HATE THESE PEOPLE.
Received v-m Wed, Aug. 24th from Mrs. Upchurch trying to locate my sister in-law. I did some research online in regards to the lady as it did seem odd after a few attempts in calling her back starting Friday, Aug. 26th. I did get a hold of her and she was very persistent that the debt needed to be resolved by 2 PM that day otherwise she was going to issue an arrest with the county my sister in-law lived in. All my research points me to this is a scam. The way she acted, very confusing details, and also the business name was odd. (Web address provided didn't seem to work at all). I've reported them to the GA Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs, and trying BBB. I'm not sure if the Mauconduit & Luna is just the name they are using as the company is valid for the area or it is them. Either way, my sister in-law was referred to the Federal Trade Commissioners Office after she also contacted the Governor's office. The numbers I have for "MLA Corp" are 404-991-6876 (Mrs. Upchurch) and 404-991-6879 (Mrs. Callaway).
