Answered a call from this number and got a robo-voice that said, "Hello, this is Jill. How are you today?" I paused, and then offered "Blue." Reply was the same intro: "Hello, this is Jill. How are you today?" I answered: "Seven." Apparently neither colors nor numbers are in their auto-script, as Jill promptly hung up. Heh.
Granted everyone knows not to answer calls you don't recognize when caller ID name is "Unavailable" or "Name not Found," right? Well here is another tidbit to ponder: this is an invalid number. There is no 7 digit number that can begin with the digit 0 because the North American Phone Numbering Plan won't allow. Designed in early 20th century, a time when you could call locally with just a few numbers, sometimes five but most likely seven numbers. I appreciate there are readers of 800notes that can recall just a few years ago that you could actually make a local call WITHOUT having to include area code. Someone said the other day that there are locations in US that still have local calling with 7 numbers.
Wow, those were the days.
Why is that important? Because phone number system was built on the fact that if the first number you dial is 0, you immediately get connected to an "operator" (number 1 also is treated as a special character so only 2-9 can be used as the first number). Just because many parts of US do have 10 number dialing for local calls, there still is no provision to have the first number of the prefix to be 0. In the future, you can use that bit of knowledge to ignore an incoming call--you can immediately see that if the first number after area code is 0, then it is a spoofed number.
