405-283-5800 robo-called me today with a message asking if I wanted my website on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing.
I pressed one to speak with a rep and was told that the company is "Your Local Merchant" in California. Sure enough, if you Google that name, you get tons of pages about what a scam it is.
Like most Search Engine placement offers, this one is unlikely to do what they claim. Besides, no company can get your page onto Google's or any other search engine's front page without violating the rules of that engine which may very well get your site blocked by all of them.
Received and inbound call today from the number above asking me to update my google 411 listing when the guy answered he asked for my name. But instead I asked him who he was and he responded very snidely "you have never heard of google?" I responded "of course I have I just have never heard of google dialing out". At which point he hung up the phone.
