I had an accident policy with American Fidelity through my employer and I was terminated last month from my job. They called because I had a plan with them which, on the recorded voicemail, they said I could continue if I chose to do so. This call followed a letter I received in the mail from the company which stated if I did not choose to continue coverage by the last day of the prior month the coverage would be cancelled. Evidently, the coverage is still available--if they can get money out of me, that is. While American Fidelity did have a reason to call since I was a prior customer, they did not do so at my request, and the fact that they are now willing to restore coverage even after they said they were cutting it off makes my stomach turn -- never believe insurance companies when it comes to "cut off" dates since they are obviously willing to turn coverage back on for me if I will simply pay them money. This smatters of cheating in my humble opinion. I worked for a marketing company that sold insurance-based products and we constantly back-pedddled to get the customer to sign ("Even though you're no longer qualified, IF I could get that policy for you...would you sign up today?" and hold the customer to his/her word). Well, I am registering my call here to forewarn others who may get unsolicited calls from this company. Beware.They are only calling to get money out of you -- and if you have even the remotest interest in what they are selling they will get the money out of you. Just don't answer the phone!
