My sister said she got a call from this number from a man saying he has pressed criminal charges against my husband. I tried to look the number up at yellowpages.com but there is no record of this number as either a business or personal phone number. What kind of attorney would have a private business phone number? Also what kind of idiot would believe that a public sector company CAN file charges? Only the government can file criminal charges, the most a private sector company can do is sue, or if they feel they have been wronged file a complaint with a government agency that will then decide to go ahead and file criminal charges or not.
When I tried to call the number it sent me straight to an automated message that said, "welcome to the auto attendant, to transfer to an extension enter it now, to reach the main directory press 9, press star to replay this menu" nothing else.
Dont know who these people are, but they are not legit. Any real attorney would know, threatening to file criminal charges if you don't call them back is considered blackmail and somewhat illegal in its own right- you know making a threat to get a desired reaction thing.
Anyway, if there were legal charges already pressed against my husband he would have been served face to face and sign for the papers, at the very least he would have gotten a registered letter with the USPS. If he hasn't been charged, then saying "I"m going to press criminal charges against him for not returning a phone call" is pretty damn suspicious.
It does need to be stated here that 2 years ago I took out a payday loan. I got the money just fine, but then I also had a LOT of 'companies' decide to be repaid for that loan. For a $300 loan I wound up, in one month, having my bank account hit for more than $1200. Did not take long to figure out my info from my application was running all over the internet. Since then I have had DOZENS similar calls and problems. Usually it's a number from another area code- once they discovered I was to smart to answer from another nations exchange code. It is usually an Indian person who tells me "charges have been filed against your name and social security number. It is vital that you return my call as soon as possible because if you don't then I will feel so sorry for you" Often he claims to be "Officer Mike of the local police" When I do talk to him he always asks for my social security number right off the bat. Yeah well, take $1200 (half my monthly income) once shame on you, get my social and bank account info twice, shame on me.
