I received a call from this number on July 17, 2010 approx. 5:00PM MT. He knew my first and last name, which was scary! He said I was having problems with Windows (I'm not) and he wanted to help me clean up my computer files. I declined and hung up. I wish I would have listened further to see exactly what he wanted me to do....
Caller says that he received information from my computer about junk files and claims that is has been set up through Microsoft Windows Systems to provide online help. When I ask for verification information to identify himself with his company source I was given a website www.techisonline.com which found texasonline.com as the search result. I then spelled the information to clarify any errors again the caller said this was the website and again "texasonline.com" was what came back from the search. He said that he would get with his techincians to find out way the website was not coming up. I waited and then when he came back on the line I ask for a supervisor, a Peter came on the line and said that the guy was new and that the website address is www.technicianonline.com this produced a response of "no results found" message. I again went through the spelling and asked Peter to give me his spelling - no reply. When he did start speaking he told me to type it in again, I did and the same result occured. He then said the he was going to get with his technicians and told me that I could take his number, however before giving anymore information the call abruptly ended. Verification is not full proof, but better than nothing and certainly discourages those trying to cause harm.
this person knew my first name and said that she was calling from washington,d.c. and i was to receive a gov. grant with no need to pay back and the line went dead. it was a little scary because if felt like i was in trouble or something
