This is a scammer posing as a police officer, complete with spoofing the actual police department's phone number! He left a message on my cell phone's voice mail:
"This message is for John. This is officer Jack Rogers (which sounded like a Hispanic accent) from the Orange County Sheriff's office.
The reason I'm trying to reach you is because of a legal case and federal complaint from an officer Steve White who's working with the Internal Revenue Service.
We wanted to sit down with you or speak to you at 202-803-4400, again, 202-803-4400 to get this matter resolved as soon as possible.
If not, I'll have to send an officer to your place of residence or your place of employment."
The 407 number is actually for the Orange County Sheriff's Office in Orlando, Florida, though it's easily spoofed, and the 202 number comes up as a "bad number" on all the usual scam-reporting sites.
They called my cell phone, which is on the FTC and State of FL Do Not Call List.
