The call came through with my area code but was not in my phone's contacts, so I sent it to VM and no message was left. I Googled the number before reporting it and the general consensus seems to be that this number just calls people who are all smart enough ignore the call and let it go to voicemail... and the caller leaves no voicemail. Then just block the number. If your smartphone is less than a few years old, then you have the ability to block any number you want from calling and/or texting you. If you don't know how, just Google it to find out. Blocked numbers can still leave voicemails though, so if you accidentally blocked a number that is relevant to you, a voicemail left by that blocked caller will give you the common sense to go back and unblock it.
