Always calls but never leaves a message. Multiple times a day.

Another spoofed number for Blume Law office. They're pretty rude, still no idea what they want. When they call at a time I can actually pick up the system hangs up on me as soon as I answer. They can f*ck off for all I care. I can't think of a single reason for them to be calling me.

I spoke with them a couple months ago, thinking it was in regards to some old medical bills..  what I found out, was that I apparently owe a Sprint bill from over 12 years ago!  I  told them they were nuts, and I had no way to confirm if I did or didn't owe a bill that old.. I've moved several times out of state and back in that time frame..I was told I could call sprint and ask about discharged accounts.. well, if it's been discharged, then paying wouldnt help my credit report and basically it was explained to me that they purchased the list of bad debts and use whatever scare tactics they can think of to collect money.. I told them that if I could even be convinced I owed a 12 yr old bill.. and for some reason felt the need to pay it.. I would only pay it to Sprint.. since that's who I owe it to.. so they probably shouldn't waste their time with me..   I thought I got thru to them.. but they called back again today.. immediately saying that they will not discuss anything until I confirm my birthday.. which they have correct and creeps me out..  my advice is just to hang up..

Well here is the great thing.  You don't have to prove anything, they do.  they must prove that you owe the bill, they must prove that they have the legal right to collect it, and they must inform you if the statute of limitations has expired.  So since they talked to you, this is what must be done by them:

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

At which point:

You need to send them a certified, return receipt debt validation letter (think of it as the best $6.47 you ever invested).  Also send it first class mail in case no one will sign for it.  Make a notion of that fact at the bottom of the letter.  You also need to report them to the proper agencies to which I have provided links to.  Then you need to go out and get a consumer lawyer to sue them on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket) and let them pay you for the harassment.  If everyone did these three things, these crooks would be bankrupt and we would all be the richer for it.  Use these web sites to find an attorney in your state that will probably take the case on a contingency basis (no money out of your pocket up front):  http://www.consumeradvocates.org/
