Yes - scam. This number called my parents' phone on 31 January 2011. My mother thought that this guy had information about me because I myself had been to Spain recently, but as far as I can tell, it was a cold call. The guy waits for information about who the mark thinks might be calling, and then confirms it. Like - "Is this Billy?" "Yeah, it's me, Billy." Or - "Where's Sheila?" "Sheila went back home." He said that he sounded funny because he'd been in a car accident and broke his nose. Said he needed money to pay the doctors quickly because his flight back to Spain leaves in a few hours. My mother said she didn't believe him, and he hung up.
Scam. Called my elderly mother Jan 31 2011, tried to pretend to be her grandson in trouble and
needed her to send money. My mother hung up.
Interesting to note that she helped by unwittingly providing information for them to work with.
Example. He said that he was her grandson and she blurted out a grandson name and the caller
jumped on that piece of info. Beware.
Yes! They did the same thing to my grandma on 25 Jan 2011- called crying saying "hi grandma" until my grandma responded with "Is this..?" (offering name). Same Spain car accident story saying she had a splint on her nose and that's why she sounded funny.
Anyway to get more information on this number? Is it a landline?
