Yes it probably is a scam. Most likely a Craig's list scam. You will get a phony check, but by the time you find out it is phony, you'll have already sent money to pay for the "driver" . And you will be responsible for any money the bank dispersed from the proceeds of the check.
Do not cash any check you receive in this kind of situation. Do not deposit it.
If you received such a check, take it down to the local post office so that the postal inspectors can take a look at it. This is a form of
mail fraud.
