The DNC isn't a call blocker and can not protect you from the illegal callers, extortion scammers, foreign country's and frauds. Criminals do not obey laws simply said.    They use spoofed numbers which make it hard to track them down.. it takes time to do this and many subpoenas for call records.

Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

They called, asked if they could provide quotes, said they would drop off their business card at my house which I quickly said no and asked for their info and they hung up.

Second call from this number.
From talking to another 'cold calling' contractor, I found out that my name/address/phone were sold to them on a "Haines List" of people looking for home repair/remodel.  Haines & Company is a direct-marketing broker located in Ohio that buys information and sells lists to companies.  How I got in their database I have no idea.  You can call them and request removal from their lists - which they will do as they are a legitimate (but annoying) business.  However, the lists that are already sold will hang around to harass you for months.

Haines has been in the marketing business for 80 years, but today's evolution of the internet and 'big data' is a huge privacy problem for us all.  Haines is only one of hundreds (thousands?) of companies collecting and collating data about all of us.  Every website you visit has a 'viewers gallery' of data trackers.  Supercomputers sort through terabytes of data to collate your IP address, name, address, phone number and a complete list of your 'interests', as well as an economic profile.  This is their 'product' that they sell to legitimate businesses, non-profits, political campaigners, shady businesses, and outright criminals posing as businesses.  Unless Congress acts to protect our 'data privacy' this will get worse and worse.  However, it is unlikely that Congress will act because the big data lobby and the direct marketing lobby are rich and powerful.  If you want to complain - write your congressman.

Contractor says they are in my area and do I need any work done on my home. They seem to tell everyone that'' they are in your area'' no matter where you live, These creeps are up to no good.
