I, too, received a phone call from 408-496-2676. The caller id stated "PBIS". They stated that they were conducting a fundraiser to raise funds for disabled officers. They wanted to hold a special sports game and were requesting donations. They said the checks would be made payable to the Sheriff's Office. When I asked if the caller was from the Sheriff's Office, he said "No". He said he was from another company because the Sheriff's Office couldn't accept donations. When I asked how the check could be cashed if the Sheriff's Office couldn't accept donations, he hung up on me.
I e-mailed the Santa Clara Deputy Sheriff's Association to let them know that I think somebody is trying to solicit money by pretending to be affiliated with the Sheriff's Office. Oh, but the story doesn't end there...

The fundraising person identified the phone number of 1-408-496-2676 as belonging to TBS Productions. I conducted my own research and have included it just below for your reference. I can not ask you to start a revolt again TBS; however, you are more than welcome to contact TBS and let them know how you feel.
A detail from the TBS e-mail concerned me. It was the fact that TBS used an aol.com e-mail account instead of their company e-mail. Usually this happens when it's a fly-by-nite company or a made-up group. So, I researched TBS on-line and found some interesting information.

TBS does have its own website ( http://www.tbsprod.com/ ); however, anybody can make up their own website with just $6.95 and a simple html editing program. TBS stands for Tremblay Bausch Specialty Productions Inc and is run by Michael G. Tremblay. Their mailing address is 100 W. Rincon Avenue #102,Campbell, CA 95008 and their phone number is (408) 376-0400.
I wish there was a way I could help the officers and their families in my area; however, I prefer for all or a majority of the fundraising monies to go directly to the SSC DSA.
P.S. -- "TBIS" is a generic name on the caller id and doesn't refer to the actual name of the company or caller. It stays there on some telephone systems unless the caller changes it.

Next time you get a fundraising call, ask them how much of the $ is actually going to the group they are raising money for... oh, and ask them to prove it in writing. That will get them to hang up on you faster than anything else.
