One reverse lookup says the number's owner is in San José. But this number is not listed in the San José YellowPages for either Zellers or Wal-Mart. Draw your own conclusions.
There is an extremely similar telemarketing scan in Camden New Jersey like this
they say they are Wal-Mart or the Hudson's Bay or other firms and then you won a free trip because someone put your name down for something, sometimes they hang up if you ask them 'what name was it', like if you're curious who in the house won, but most stories go, they want your credit card number for the free trip and possibly free spending money with the free trip, but they want your credit card or debit card numbers for scamming or identity theft...
and it's really odd within a week you get 'similar' offers from NJ and then California, and few still cant figure out 'who these guys are'
out of the same area in San Jose are numbers with
408-418-55xx
it's likely these numbers are with
a. Student Success Network
b. Student Advancement
c. College for Careers
[they got a few names actually!]
and got some connection with the free trip people...
and how strange are these student networks?
"I received a call on my cell from a younger man that said he wanted to help me with college. I said I wasn't interested to which he replied, "You dont even know what I am going to offer you. Why?". So I asked him what he had to off, then I was told I won money...Come on really LOL. I told him he was full of it and to never call again. How often do you win money from a supposedly college recruiting call center."

Last thing, someone else phoned the police about the strange calls out of San Jose and said this
"eported the calls to the police, and the cop said that it's probably a scam from south africa forwarded through an american number. he advised not to give out any information and not even to pick up the phone. he said it may be possible that the person on the other end is taking some information from your phone as long as you're connected."
funny how similar sales pitches from two sides of the country, and strange how a lot of DIFFERENT scams come from the same city with really similar phone numbers
