I just received a phone call today, at 3:09PM, May 18, 2015.
The caller ID showed 408.426.4618.
The person called was a lady claiming that she called from AT&T Account Receivable Department.
She said that my old business which was recently closed in March 2015 had a unpaid balance of 76.xx dollars.
She also added that this conversation is being records. (It sounded very professional except that there was a short delay after I answered the call. My suspiction turned off when I heard that the phone conversation being recorded - it must be ligit)
Anyway, after a few lines of exchange, I became suspicious again. Why? Because I was for sure that I called ATT to close the account and paid it off.
I told her that as I recalled the account was paid off and I was the one who called.
She answered confidently that we received this Collection from ATT this morning and have you paid it?
I told her that I will call ATT Customer Service to have this taken care off.
She was stll on the line and told me that "OK, please call"
I then checked my bank account to make sure the final payment paid. It was in March 24, 2015.
I called ATT at 800.799.2828 and spoke to Tiffany.
Tiffany was able to pull up all my information and confirmed that everything was paid in March.
I told her about the incident and she was surprise but confirming that ATT would not make phone call like that.
ATT would use regular mail to communicate with customers.
Anyway, I hope by writing to report here will help others to avoid becoming victims of bad people.
DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR INFORMATION OVER THE PHONE NO MATTER HOW LIGIT IT SOUNDS.
CALL THEM BACK AT THE NUMBER YOU KNOW LIGIT AND VERIFY.
REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITIES TO PUBLIC TO HELP OTHERS AVOIDING IT

For the last couple of weeks on a daily basis I get two to three calls from this number at various times of day and night I don't answer because I don't know who it is they won't leave a voicemail so I tried calling the number back and it shuts down immediately won't put a call through so I'm going to be blocking it.... Suspicious and a pain in the [***]!!!!
