While I was on my lunch break, a gentleman called. My Caller ID did not identify the company/caller. I said, "Hello?" He said, "How you doin today?" I said, "Pretty poorly, thank you very much". He started his spiel on how he could replace my security system with a new one for not just cheap but, really, really cheap because a thief could cut my phone line and I would have no way for the alarm company to be contacted. Lo and behold, he could give me a new service called wireless cellular (Hello, that has been around a long time). I had to speak quite loudly AT him so that he would be quiet. I said, " I don't want to waste your time, I already have a cellular system." He said, "Well this is a really good deal so let me send you to a tech who can come out to your house (RIGHT!) and give you an estimate". I said, "DID YOU NOT HEAR ME? I already have a system." He said, " But your system has not been upgraded for three years (LIE)". I said, " Oh, really? What system do I have and who is the company that monitors my system?" He just fumbled around because he was off his script and AGAIN said he was going to transfer me to a tech and that all I needed to do was give him my address.(RIGHT). I said, "Don't bother." He said, "Are you the homeowner?" I said, " As a matter of fact, I am the homeowner's mistress, don't tell his wife, okay okay okay?" He said, "If you are not the homeowner how do you know the system is upgraded?" I said, "How do you think I became his mistress? I put in the system and I upgraded it 6 months ago! Wala, love at first ringy dingy." I heard a sharp intake of air and the words "Um Umm Ummmm." Are those words? Click in my ear. Another scam, but a frightening one. They want you to give them your address so they can come visit you in the middle of the night or when you are not at home because they know they can cut your phone line because you just told them you had an old system. Pretty clever. This is the first time I have been hit with this particular scam. Don't play with these people unless you know what you are doing and have precautions in place beforehand. Be Safe!
