I have had the same experience and I too think it is a scam but am nervous about it too because like you I have some late pays on payday loans.
The guy calling me said his name is Chris Edwards and you could tell that he was trying to hide his accent and talk as an american.
Ok got a call from 408-659-4255 well actually it came up as private and that is the call back number provided. Says they are from American Debt Mgmt group and that they are calling about a lawsuit filed against me by US Cash Adv. When I told them I had no idea who that company was they said 90% of payday loan lenders use that name. Granted I do have payday loans and I am late on some but have made arrangements. I asked them to provide me with documentation via the mail so I could verify if this was a valid debt they said no they did not have to prove to me I owed the money that their client already did and that their client provided me with cash in my account and I have already taken it out. They had heavy accents and when I called the number back they answered as message center. I am pretty sure this is a scam but a little nervous at the same time. Anyone else have experience with this number? Oh and they told me if I did not pay them their settlement offer it was going to the courts in front of a jury and I would have to pay over $7000.

When I google the phone # this is what I got "Spoofed Numbers: Caution, 408-659-4255 is a "spoofed" number, which means that whoever called you "tricked" your caller ID to display an incorrect phone number. Telemarketers do this so you cannot complain, but they failed... you can still file a complaint here to fight back against unethical telemarketers."
Now I feel more secure in the fact that it is a scam.
I have received three calls from this number in two days. The first message was left by someone named Jordan and spoke with a heavy accent. He said that I had a lawsuit pending against me for money I owed to US Cash Advance. Then I received a second call, stating that I need to call them immediately. When I called, Jordan was supposedly busy, so Chris Edwards spoke to me and said that I owed a little over $400 plus fees and interest. He said they could do a settlement and I asked him to fax me some information regarding this, he says he couldn't fax anything. He sent me a settlement letter on a letterhead showing Global Efficiency Inc. , which is in Canada and he says that he was with American Debt Mgmt Svcs. Has anything happened to anybody as far legal action being taken against them. I am a little scared, because he said if I don't settle, I would have to pay around $7,000 to go to court.
I've had nothing happen, although they think that I want to settle the case. I was suppose to pay them back on 2-17-2012 but I have not paid them a dime. They keep calling and trying to get me to pay but I ignore their calls. I am thinking sereously about giving the information to my attorney and seeing what can be done about them.
I just got another call and this one was from a John Hendue, he called from a phone # of 1-017-44 (caller ID showed) but said the 408-659-4255 was the callback #. These are not valid #'s so I believe that this is a scammer and that we should not pay them anything.
