We got a call from this number with caller ID saying "Pat Brown" on the afternoon of April 27, 2016 on our landline. I answered after a couple rings. A live lady, not a recording, claimed she was calling to invite us to a bible study group or something like that. She was very polite and well spoken, but she didn't ask for anyone by name. Once I heard her get to "bible" I figured whatever was really going on was not of interest coming in on this phone line. I politely asked her to put this (our) number she'd called on their do-not-call and do-not-share lists; she said she would and wished me a nice day.
Our number isn't associated with any religious patron rosters, at least not legitimately. Our third party blocking service (rhymes with SlowNoHobo) intercepts calls with caller ID numbers on their blacklist after one ring. This call rang more than once, so this number wasn't already on their radar at the time we were called.
Reverse lookup at whitepages told me the number is assigned to a Pat Brown in a nearby area, so if the CID was spoofed they spoofed the correct CID name, too.
I'm hopeful this was just an honest and well-meaning (albeit possibly ill-advised and inconsiderate) neighbor trying to share their faith, and I'm hopeful we won't get any more invitation calls. But the caller failing to ask for anyone here by name and the overall frequency of scam calls these days makes my inner cynic leery. I'm posting here with my fingers crossed it'll be the only or one of few reports of problem calls from this number.
