Answered this call, they said they were from (gave my town) Community Environmental Services...checking for leaks in people's basements. When I asked where they were located in my town they said they could not give out that information. I said, "because you're a telemarketer!!" and hung up.
Received first call, from this number, today (I know because I keep records of these scammer calls). Because I have friends with 410 area codes, I answered, but when someone did not speak, right away, I hung up. Too late, they know that it's a working number and, contrary to my self-imposed policy of not answering calls from numbers I don't recognize, I'm sure I've doomed myself, now, to hundreds of new calls. They know it's a working number. Thanks for this website, though, it really helps!!
Got called at 6:40 PM on 3/5/2014. I picked up and a pleasant woman mentioned about a free environmental assessment of the basement. I said no but thanked for the offer. I told her I wanted to opt-out of her calling list, she complied and I hung up.
Similar experience to those above. I am in northern VA. Caller asked how I am today. As is my habit when strangers calling try to make friends, I said, "Is this a sales call?" The caller said it wasn't. Then she started the spiel about people in my area reporting problems with dampness in their basements - I interrupted again, said, "This is a sales call. Please take me off your list." And I hung up. I also am on the do not call list - updated it recently on FTC web site. Obviously these folks are in violation - if they call again my practice is to say, "You are in violation of the regulations of the Federal Trade Commission and I intend to report this call." Telemarketers tend to hang up really fast after that.
