Who called from 4104020226

I received a call from this phone number yesterday evening. A woman left a voicemail and claimed that I had an "urgent message" waiting and that I needed to call back in order to receive it. Out of curiosity, I decided to call back. A man answered and I asked about why I had received a call earlier. He said that he did not call me, and that he believes his number has been "spoofed" and he had contacted the authorities because he had received numerous calls from people claiming that they won a lottery of some sort. The only reason I answered a call from an unknown caller was because the number was local and I had submitted job applications recently.

It must be incredibly easy to alter a name and number in a CNAM database. How dare these scam artists mask their identity by using phone numbers of unsuspecting people!

P.S. I have used this website to look up other phone numbers in the past. 800 Notes is an invaluable resource. Keep up the good work!

It is possible the woman who called you spoofed that number to cause grief to the person who is assigned that number; in another word, revenge.

For others :
Ideally, legitimate businesses seeking to contact you after you submit your job applications will give their CNAM correctly, so you know it is really them and not a scammer (who should not know you have made those specific applications).

If you cannot answer the phone quickly, these legitimate businesses should leave a voice message  asking you to call back at their published number(s), as seen in phone books and their own website.
