Just got one. The recorded message was talking to my answering machine like it was having a conversation. Claims to be firefighter charity. More likely one of the scummy ones that give $1 out of $10000 and still maintains charity status???? Or a criminal. The convo it was having with my machine would be funny if it wasnt sleazy criminals calling. "How much money can we con from you today Mr Answering Machine?"
Caller ID said "Pikeville MD." Calling to collect money to help unnamed police. I said not interested and hung up. Nature of calls similar to other commenters.
Yes, they call frequently. As soon as I say no thank you they (Bob) hang up. "Bob" with the deep male voice actually called back today and listened to me about how they hang up, and I'll have to report the unprofessional calls to the organization. Then he went into his sales pitch, then I said no again and he hung up. If it is legit, I would like to report it to the soliciting company and the police organization the say they "represent".
Get a sports whistle, the kind a referee uses. Stay on the line until you get a live person on the other end. Tell them you would love to make a donation and here is your information. Then blow the whistle into the phone as loud as you can. Great fun and they generally won't call back.
