I have been called every 6 months by various names (all sounding like the same guy). He talks like he knows me from my past (he doesn't) and asks generic enough questions to get quick answers. "Are you guys still burning those 4 foot tubes over there? And how about those 60 W incandescents?"
After talking for a short time he tells me about a promotion they have right now (either Home Depot or Best Buy gift cards that come with the catalog) and wants to send the materials out. To validate/activate our account he wants to send "just a half case" of light bulbs. I have never received the catalogs and always refuse to order before seeing catalogs and pricing info. Based on the responses to Werner Electric from others, that's a good move. He HAS tricked two secretaries into giving out my personal cell phone number. But to the best of my knowledge he hasn't directly broken any laws.

Just got a call from this number. Guy wanted our maintenance dept. Acted like he knew our head of maintenance..When I asked what company he was with, he asked me if I was always this rude to callers. Wanted cell phone no. of maintenance head. When I told him that wasn't possible, he told me he would just send one of his men out to deal directly with my maintenance dept. and bypass my rude *** completely. Good luck with that, this owner just chuckled when you hung up on them.
The guy pretended he knew the head of maintenance and casually called him by his first name. He said he was at the supply shop picking up parts for a job the maintenance supervisor contracted, but he needed his cell phone number to make sure he was picking up the right parts.
Picking up parts in Baltimore for a job states away? He said he didn't want to cause any trouble and was just trying to finish the job. He made up too many details and made the story too elaborate as he went on.
He tried several ploys to no avail. No information was given out, and he was told to stop calling. He stopped for six months, then called once more. I reminded him that he was asked to stop calling altogether.
Hadn't heard from Werner in four years. Then this morning a woman called from 410.585.6544 requesting to speak to the head of maintenance. No success.
