Got a call yesterday at 6:34 p.m. All the caller ID said was Baltimore, MD. To me, if it really is the FOP, and they are legit, then why doesn't it show up at FOP on caller ID. Furthermore, why don't they leave a message to that effect, and if you want to call and donate, you can????!!!!! I'm tired of getting calls from people like this when I'm on the do not call lists, and I never answer for anyone I don't know, or generic numbers. You'd think they'd get the hint and stop calling! If they really are FOP, they will agree to send out info. to you, as I tell them I never donate via the phone. Alot of these calls are fake, and police I know have told me so. So, don't believe them.
I just received this call for the third time today. Caller ID said Middle River, MD. After reading these posts, I answered the phone. He tried to start with his pitch, but I stopped him. I said, "Before you begin, I must inform you as a citizen of the state of MD this phone call is being recorded. Do you understand the statement I just made?" His answer after a long pause was "ok." I repeated it to make it sound official, he answered and I then gave him permission to continue with his lies. Gave me some falsehood about collecting money for officers killed in the line of duty. I stopped him again, even though he insisted on talking over me. Told him that my husband was a police officer and we already pay FOP dues for such things. I also asked what percentage of any donation actually went to the FOP. His response was "I'm glad to hear that and we will immediately take you off of our list. Thank you and have a great night." Nothing I told him was true, but I guess I'm off the list. Everyone should use the same stint I just did.
Companies can purchase the ability to get your number even if you block it. Bet you didn't know that! Isn't it nice to know our wonderful Congress decided to give telemarketers that option.
Look up the phone number of your reps and give THAT to the telemarketers.
