Tax scam. Called just before 10am this morning. Since I didn't recognize the number, I let the answering machine get it - and they actually left a message, although it got cut off in the middle somehow. A guy with only a slight Indian accent said his name was James Taxon, said something about an enforcement action by the treasury department, and something about a magistrate judge. It cut off around the point where he was saying what would happen if I ignored the message.
Here's a transcript of the message:
"Hi. This message is intended to contact you. My name is James Taxon, and I'm calling regarding an enforcement action, executed by the US Treasury, intending your serious attention. Ignoring this, will be an intentional attempt to avoid an initial appearance of a magistrate judge ..." [message cuts off - sounds like they hung up/disconnected]
I reported the call to https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml and https://www.ftc.gov/complaint and I recommend others do the same.
I received a call from this number with the same message at 9:10am on 3/28. I answered the phone and let it play. It gave a phone number to call back to which started with 260 area code.
I received a call from this number and called it back and spoke with Peter Brown with a very strong Indian accent. Said there is a warrant out for me from the Department of Revenue
