Called home #, asked for phone account holder by name, started into a very fast sales pitch about police related organization helping orphans and widows of officers killed or injured in line of duty. Said they would mail *invoice* along with other materials. Tried to get a verbal yes to commit to their offer. Told them call quality was breaking up and then the line hung-up.
First off: answer "hello" reply "that is my name" or "no" if asked, but do not use "yes" "ok" or any affirmative statement, since they may try to claim to have a recording of the call and you agreeing to pay them. Be polite, but firm and hang-up after asking to be put on do-not-call-list (probably useless). Just my $0.02.
