"Do not hang up. Congratulations. Your home has been selected for a free General Electric wireless home security system with a medical alert button from Security Solutions. For you, the equipment is free, and the installation is free. Your system will be monitored 24 hours a day for police, fire, and medical emergencies. Truth of the matter, the FBI reports there is a property crime every 15 seconds. It is also reported that 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 will fall in any given year. Do not become a statistic. Press 1 now to find you how YOU can get your free security system, with installation. Or press 2 if you want to be placed on our do-not-call list. Thank you and congratulations."
This is only one of many spoofed phone numbers these people shift among. This is a scam. Even if there might be an iota of authenticity here, what they are not telling you is that the 24-hour monitoring will cost an ongoing fee.
Thus this is a telemarketing call, and thus subject to the Do-Not-Call list. These people are violating Federal law.
(Note: do NOT press 1 or 2 -- even 2, to supposedly get off their call list, indicates to them that there is a responsive person at the other end of the line. So they will continue to try to call, hoping for a response more to their liking.)
I am receiving telemarketing calls from this number to my cell phone 203-879-3709. Isn't this against the law? Can this be prevented? I pay for time used on my phone so do not answer unknown callers.
