I'm in Kingston Canada. Got the "Hi, I'm Laurie, we have been trying to reach you about a fabulous vacation"........
We are listed in DNC list for 2 years now so why do we still get these calls? Put phone down and waited until it started beeping before hanging up. Reported incident to CTRC.
The DNC is useless, since these fools are not calling from within Canada - our law does not apply to them. And to further mess us all up, the telemarketing firm probably used a dummy Canadian address and requested the current file of the DNC. The government does this in the hope that they are legit and would program the dont call numbers to be ignored by their auto dialer. No such luck! This scam is well known, but our idiots at the CRTC dont bother to verify stuff. So of course, the DNC list is the FIRST to get bothered by these sleazebags. I too was called, but I route my phone line thru my computer and it is programmed to not answer any number which is not whitelisted (approved) - and there are only 6 numbers on the approved list, my family.
Actually Canada's DNC is fairly close to ours. Just as Canadians are entitled to file complaints from calls here in the US as well And yes, they can do something. Country's have co-operated with each other before contrary to what most think. The callers can be reported to both country's. DNC is for telemarketers, only btw. They keep the honest business's honest. It can not stop the criminals, frauds, scams or extortion scammers from calling. Instead of complaining, fight back. That means take it to the proper places for reporting. You can file directly with the FTC & FCC. I don't currently have the Canadian links though. You also need to realize this isn't like CSI on TV, these things do not get stopped in a hour, it isn't going to magically stop the calls once you file reports. Most numbers are spoofed and it takes time.

You also may want to consider a call blocking device or phone. The T-lock Incoming PRO Call Blocker sells for under 60 bucks on Amazon and can block up to 1500 numbers.
