The phone rings, I pick it up and immediately the person hangs up. I use *69, get the number and hit keypad #1 to return the call. I soon discover that the number is/was "disconnected or no longer in service". I call Vonage, only to discover that the FCC is investigating the act that someone is using a "disconnected or no longer in service" phone number to call us. The employee of Vonage told me that there is nothing they can do until the FCC completes their investigation. I googled, Google with "company using a phone number to hide their phone number" and I clicked on "http://www.ucan.org/blog/featured/consumer_sp ... umbers_to_spoof" and I am now reading "Caller ID Scam Using Fake Phone Numbers to "Spoof" to find out more. I do more "research" and came up with the website that makes this all possible:
http://spoofcard.com/
I would contact the US senators and representative for your district.
It appears to come from the Pittsburg, PA area. I was at work and when I saw the missed call on my home line I checked to see if there was a message -- of course there was none.
These people have called 4 or 5 times a day for the last 3 weeks.
I don't answer and they don't leave a message. I called the # back just now and they say the number has been disconnected.
